Original YOSHITOSHI Japanese Woodblock Print 24 Accomplishments Imperial Japan 3

Original YOSHITOSHI Japanese Woodblock Print 24 Accomplishments Imperial Japan 3

Original YOSHITOSHI Japanese Woodblock Print 24 Accomplishments Imperial Japan 3

Priest Karukaya Doshin refuses to recognize his son Ishidomaru from the. Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan, c. The daimyo Kato Sayemon Shige-uji left his jealous wife and became a priest taking the name Kaukaya Doshin. In this scene, his son Ishidomaru after a long search finds him and has recognized him by his birthmark. However, Karukaya Doshin refuses to recognize his son so he can keep his vows. That the scene is emotionally charged is clear; the boys longing for his father and the fathers anguish in turning his son away is beautifully, albeit sadly conveyed by Yoshitoshi. This print is from an earlier series marked by the long signature box and colored story box. It has an album paper backing and a few small wormholes; curved one in title box and another in the lower margin.
