HAND SIGNED “Toshi Yoshida” by artist and titled “Raicho “on the bottom margin. “Showa 5 nen saku” (Printed 1930) and Japanese title “Raicho” in kanji lettering on the left margin. English title and artist signature on the bottom margin is hand-written (not block signed) in pencil by the artist. The rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) is a medium-sized gamebird in the grouse family. In Japan, it is known as the raicho, which means “Thunderbird”. It is the official bird of Gifu, Nagano, and Toyama Prefectures and is a protected species nationwide.
