This is a very rare and exclusive item, in very good condition, containing prints by Hiroshige Utagawa. The title of the album is “The Fifty-Three stations of the Tokaido, ” and details the artists’ first travel along the Tokaido road linking Edo and Kyoto in 1832. The work enjoyed great popularity in its time, and is considered a landmark in ukiyo-e. Hiroshige’s work came to have a marked influence on Western painting towards the close of the 19th century as a part of the trend in Japonism.
