Shufu Miyamoto Japanese b. 1950 Original Woodblock Print “Shadowson the Water”. Miyamoto Shufu was born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1950. In 1970 he started studying oil painting under Iioka Osamu. In 1972 he taught himself making woodblock prints, and he started exhibiting his work a few years after. In 1975 he contributed his first print to the yearly CWAJ exhibition and since 1977 he has had annual one-man show exhibitions in Japan. His work is in many major museums and he is represented by top galleries in Japan and the USA. Favourite subjects are landscapes depicted in soft colors. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE , VERY HARD TO FIND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR THE AGE. L eft panel above printmaker signature the title of the play ,’Toeizan Nofu no Negaisho. Left of the signature dated and printing location of the work, Ichimura-za Theatre in July, 1884. Left long cartouche escene name’Sakura Sogo Jikiso no Ba’ (the’Sakura Sogo making a direct petition’ scene). Middle and right panels names of the 3 corresponding actors and their character in the play. Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Sakura Sogo, Iwai Matsunosuke IV as Fuji no Kata, and Kataoka Gado III as Lord Higashiyama Yoshimasa. Hand crafted paper , show obvious paper fibres. Yakusha-e Print of Kabuki actors. Nishiki-e , multiple colors with brighter pigment present on blue clothes and gray areas , please check last pictures , tiny white points are brightness on it. Original Antique Japanese Woodblock Print OHARA KOSON’Diving Mallard’ Framed. Please scroll down for lots more photos. An antique Japanese woodblock print by Ohara Koson (1877 – 1945) of a diving Mallard duck, housed in it’s original glazed frame with framers label verso, and dating to the early 20th century circa 1900 – 1910. The print depicts a Mallard duck diving under the surface of a still pond, it’s head partially visible below the water, and with foliage to one side. The print is housed in it’s original black wooden frame, glazed, and with original framers label verso of’T. Murray and Son, Carvers, Gilders, & Printsellers, 106 Nethergate, Dundee’ (Thomas Murray was listed at this address in the Dundee Post Office directories during the late 19th / early 20th century). Frame approx 25.6cm x 27cm. Good antique condition with expected light toning and fading commensurate with age. The only points to note are a spot of light foxing above the ducks head (last photo) and a couple of specks of dust under the glass (the print has never been removed from the frame).
