1940 Paul Jacoulet Flowers South Seas /350 Japanese Woodblock Print RARE! L@@K

South Seas by Paul Jacoulet. Size: 14 -1/2 x 18 1/2 (Full margins). This print is so rare that fewer than half of the impressions are thought to have survived, and most in faded condition. Despite his considerable efforts in botanical and entomological studies, Jacoulet never had interest in scenes that didn’t contain human subjects. Nevertheless, this print, and the study of Cactus achieved real popularity, which Jacoulet cut off by sealing the blocks with steel bands and never reprinting. Japanese woodblock print 1776 Shigemasa fr book Seiro Bijin Awase Sugata Kagami

A Japanese woodblock print, a diptych in original by Shigemasa from 1776. These are fairly large bookpages from the famous book “Seiro Bijin Awase Sugata Kagami” or “A Mirror of the Forms of Rival Beauties of the Green Houses” a collaboration between Shigemasa and Shunsen. This image is attributed Shigemasa, not signed. He seldom signed his works and for that reason he is considered a rare artist. Size in total 23 cm x 30 cm or 9.1″ x 11.8″, margins included. The condition is stunning! Just a tiny insect bite, slight soiling in the lower right corner. The Provenance is a Noble family in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The book mentioned also exists in a later edition from 1858, but these two pages are however, first edition from 1776. Hillier called the book “The finest of all Japanese color-printed picture books”. Up for sale is this vintage Original 1946 Japanese Woodblock print in real nice condition for its age, the only things wrong with it is a small portion of the writing on the border is starting to get hard to read and there is one very small worm hole on the border of the paper also as seen in pix about the size of a pencil lead. Other than that it appears to be in great condition. I had to remove it from it’s original frame, it is what kept it in such good condition all these years. Title of the print is- Morning at the hot spring resort in Arayu, Shiobara (Yuyado no asa [Shiobara Arayu]) Date 1946. Japanese showa era woodblock print; ink and color on paper. It measures 15-1/4x 10-5/8 inches. The item “Kawase Hasui Japanese Woodblock Print Showa era 1946 Original” is in sale since Monday, June 12, 2017. Antique Japanese brush drawing prelim study wood block print Ukiyo-e figures

Antique Japanese brush drawing prelim study wood block print Ukiyo-e figures

Preliminary study for Japanese print? Undated, artist unidentified – my guess mid 19th century This might be an early state of a Japanese print, however, the more I look at this the more it looks like a brush drawing that could be a preliminary study for a Japanese print. It is undated and unidentified, comes from the estate of a noted Michigan collector. It measures 13 x 9 on a thin rice paper has some light creases, and red stamp in lower left hand corner. All the other items in this collection were mid-19th century ca. 1850-70 and we think this one might be too. I think it’s a drawing rather than a print because the weight of the line which seems to vary with pressure, the way a line made with a brush would look, rather than the edge a line cut in wood would appear. There is some creasing to the paper and other minor condition issue. Still this looks like a one of a kind piece to my eye. Pricey but secure and tracked all the way.
