Ukiyoe artist of exceptional talent who lived through the turbulent period from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era. He was nicknamed “bloody Yoshitoshi” for his cruel scenes from Kabuki plays and battlefields, among other subjects. He led the Ukiyo-e world from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period as a prolific artist who created a wide range of subjects regardless of genre. His works are said to number as many as 10,000. Although Tsukioka Yoshitoshi left behind a large number of works, his most famous works are the “Bloodstained Pictures” and “Mukoro-e”.
