KATSUYUKI NISHIJIMA Original Japanese Wood Block Print “Umbrellas” Signed and numbered; unframed measures approximately 18 1/4″H x 13 5/8″W. Vintage, pre-owned, with age related imperfections to include stains, rubs, mars, creasing and bleed through to rear of artists paper. No evidence of having been framed or mounted. KATSUYUKI NISHIJIMA was born in 1945 in Yamaguchi Province of Japan. From 1964 to 1968 he studied the art of Woodblock Prints in the studio of the Mikumo publishing house in Kyoto as well as exhibiting his work with the Kyoto independent artists and in solo displays. From 1972 he focused his immense talents on limited edition woodblocks using traditional old buildings as his main subject matter. They are in USED/AS IS condition. VG149 Japanese Antique wood block wooden Ukiyoe woodcut printing block. This is a wooden block of old woodblock prints of Ukiyoe in the Edo period. Ukiyoe: Beautiful Woman on the Bridge. Length 49.8cm Width 27.5 cm Thickness: 2.4cm 1300g. A screw is attached to the top part of the ceiling to hang it on the wall. There is a slight chip in the upper left corner. There are some minor flaws, but it is in good condition considering the period. There is no major cracking damage. Hold assumes one week a limit. Description – Woodblock print titled “Birds and Fish”. Shiro Kasamatsu was a Japanese engraver and print maker trained in the Shin-Hanga and Sosaku-Hanga styles of woodblock printing. Kasamatsu was born in Tokyo in 1898 and apprenticed at the age of 13 to Kaburagi Kiyokata, a tradiional master of Bijin-ga or female portraiture. January 11, 1898, Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. Dimensions – 14 1/4″ x 21 1/4″ framed. Color – Blues, Black, and White. Materials – Framing, white. Condition – Good condition, shows little wear. Professionally framed and matted.
