Utagawa Kuniaki Original 1861 Japanese Woodblock Woman Children Looking at Snow. Original Antique Woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniaki dated 1861 depicting a Woman with infant and two Children Greeting Father/husband while Looking Through the Window out at Snowy Landscape. It appears that the dark spot on lower left is the shoulder of the person they are greeting (presumably the father). This is an original antique Japanese Woodblock print by Utagawa Yoshiiku, also known as Ochiai Yoshiiku from 1863. It depicts the actor Sawamura Tossho II as Kojiro. Kojiro was an expert swordsman from the early Edo period (early 17th century) and is often depicted because where he succumbs in dealth to Miyamoto Musashi. 20 1/2 x 16 1/4 x 1 inches frame. 14 x 10 inches print. 4 lb 2 oz. Ukiyoe is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties, kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers, scenes from history and folk tales, travel scenes and landscapes, flora and fauna, and erotica.
