Toshi Yoshida Set of 3 Woodblock Print Friendly Garden Japanese Pine Bamboo Plum

This set of three is called “the friendly garden” and they are among Yoshida’s most desired woodblocks. Published, printed, and carved by Yoshida, the three pieces are individually titled “pine tree”, “bamboo tree”, and “plum tree”, and were produced from 19 hand carved blocks. All three are signed in pencil lower right, “Yoshida Toshi” in kanji. Each one is framed in its original teak frame, measuring 31″x16″. The prints themselves are in great condition but the frames and paper backs are worn. The paper back has some tears. Colors are bright with little to no fading. Frames have some wear. The silk matting has slight thread separation, but no major loss or damage. If you want to see more pictures let me know. The piece is 26″ x 33″ and unframed. The piece is #32 in a low edition of 50. There is a small 1/2 tear to one side away from the image. A good framer will be able to minimize all of the issues. I have seen several of Nakayama’s prints and they can all be rough from his technique. The print is a rare early minimalist image of Zen Rocks floating on deep rich lines. The rocks are printed with metalized inks that shine and show differently as the light and the viewer’s perspective change. For all it’s simplicity this is one of the most complex and deep prints I have ever handled. It was not easy to photograph and will be different every time you see it. In bright light the warm reddish floating lines become the focus and in low light the rocks float in space. This is a stunning print by a True Artist, Master Printmaker and Visionary. Ido Masao (1945-) He was born in China and moved back to Iwate prefecture in Japan. He became a pupil of a dyer, Yoshida Mitsuho. He started creating woodblock prints approximately from 1972.
