Hiroshi Yoshida Sailing Boats Afternoon Woodblock Print Signed Vintage Japanese
Author: adminFeb 23
NO FRAME OR MATTING INCLUDED. This sale is for the wood block print and the cardboard backing to which it has been pasted. This piece came from an estate of an art lover. This was matted and framed, but I have removed all that to investigate and photograph the print. It is a shame, but it has been pasted to cardboard which is what a lot of folks did back in the day. There is some crinkling and bubbles due to this procedure but the print is in otherwise wonderful condition and still retains its beautiful pastel shades. It is pencil signed and titled. Yoshida made six of these woodblock prints Sailing Boats, depicting different times of the day. I believe this could be the AFTERNOON one, it does not state it on the title. Wikipedia: Hiroshi Yoshida (1876 1950) was a 20th-century Japanese painter and woodblock printmaker. He is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga style, and is noted especially for his excellent landscape prints. Yoshida travelled widely, and was particularly known for his images of non-Japanese subjects done in traditional Japanese woodblock style, including the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks in the United States. It does have a slightly musty smell from age. From other copies that I have seen, it seems to be still colorful. The print’s outer measurements are: 15 1/4″ L x 21 1/8″ H. The visual colored portion 14″ L x 20″ H. Please ask all questions to help authenticate this piece to your satisfaction. I also have another wood block print by the same artist for sale in my store – Three Little Islands. The item “Hiroshi Yoshida Sailing Boats Afternoon Woodblock Print Signed Vintage Japanese” is in sale since Saturday, February 18, 2017. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Prints”. The seller is “jmso” and is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. This item can be shipped to United States.
