Vintage Suiho Matsumura Woodblock Print Set with Frame. This piece is based on a design by the renowned Kyoto Yuzen pattern designer, Mr. Suiho Matsumura, who was active from the late Taisho era to the early Showa era. Originally, it was designed as a pattern for the hem of men’s undergarments (juban). This design was later adapted by the first owner of PyonPyon-do, Mr. Ihei Okamoto, who turned it into woodblock prints and produced them as decorative pochibukuro (small gift envelopes). This practice has continued from the Taisho and Showa eras to the present day. Up for your consideration is a stunning Japanese woodblock print. This was picked up by my Grandfather somewhere in his many travels. He was a British Military Officer during World War II and later a Diplomat. This piece has been displayed on my fishing cottage for many years. It measures 9.5 inches tall by 13 inches wide including the frame. This vintage Japanese woodblock print is a true treasure, featuring a beautiful harbor scene with boats. The vibrant colors and intricate details of the scene make this piece a stunning addition to any collection. It is made of high-quality paper and is believed to be from the early 1900s.
