This particular woodblock dates to the late 1970s. It is signed by the artist, Toshi Yoshida, in English in pencil on the right bottom right margin and in Japanese within the image (with chop). The title of this piece is on the lower left hand margin. It depicts Iidabashi (View From Iida Bridge; Daytime in Tokyo) in serene blues and reflections in the water with workmen in their boats beneath the river walls – a wonderful scene that transports the viewer to another place and time. Image Size 10″ x 7 1/4″. With Mat & Frame. Professionally framed in Tokyo. Water-based Ink on Paper. The Japanese water-based inks provide a wide range of vivid colors, glazes, and transparency. Int artists of the 20th century. He followed the family tradition, and centuries old Japanese craft, of woodblock printmaking adopting and developing his signature style. His close relationship with his father was instrumental in the pursuit of his art. Together, father and son traveled Japan, and the globe, examining and sketching people and places around them. Toshi Yoshida Set of 3 Woodblock Print Friendly Garden Japanese Pine Bamboo Plum. This set of three is called “the friendly garden” and they are among Yoshida’s most desired woodblocks. Published, printed, and carved by Yoshida, the three pieces are individually titled “pine tree”, “bamboo tree”, and “plum tree”, and were produced from 19 hand carved blocks. All three are signed in pencil lower right, “Yoshida Toshi” in kanji. Each one is framed in its original teak frame, measuring 31? Colors are bright with little to no fading. Frames have minor wear and Nick’s from storage. The silk matting has slight thread separation, but no major loss or damage. Back of one has minor tear in paper top right.
