Catalogue of all Tree Woodblock Prints. Title: Joichi Hoshi – Catalogue of all Tree Woodblock Prints – 1970 to 1979. Year Printed: November 1, 1988. Introduction: Joichi Hoshi describing background and philosophy of his works. Book Size: 10.75″ by 8.63″. Condition: Very Good with no issues noted such as ripped pages, water marks, discoloration along edges or any other type of damage; Slight scuff upper right corner front. Note: light areas on right side of book cover images are reflection from outdoor lighting. Language: English and Japanese. Illustrations/Essays: 162 color illustrations with Title (Japanese and English), Date, Size and Edition size (Appendix also contains the same information). The catalogue includes three essays Hoshi experts, Examples of his signature and chop marks, Outline of Hoshis career and Pictorial of printing stages. One other section that is not translated but looks like the history of Hoshi during his early years (including field drawings). Long out of print and infrequently seen on the market, this is an invaluable addition to anyone collection of Hoshi references. Please ask for any additional information or pictures. In the early 1970s the artist began to specialize in images of trees. This is what he is most famous for. He is know as the Father of Japanese Tree Prints which became popular in the 1970s. This blue tree is considered extremely collectible and is one of the most sought after in the Tree series. Combined intricate color and metallic pigments by incorporating gold leaf into the layers. Pencil signed with the full name in Western writing and writing in kanji and a red seal. It is a not numbered limited edition. The size indicated, width 12.5 cm x height 18.6 cm does not include the margins. The measurements of the frame are 26 cm x 33.5 cm.
