This is a popular print by him with the bold yellow colors. Feel free to make an offer on it. Haku Maki was born in the Ibaraki Prefecture of Japan and is known for this wood and cement block relief prints. Maki is prominently known for his use of kanji and stylized calligraphy to created a bold statement. When creating his prints Maki would work wet cement onto in woodblocks to create new textures. Late in life, he began to focus on smaller works, with persimmons and other fruit, teacups, bowls, and bottles. While using his cement technique this would create a three-dimensional appearance. Maki was one of ten artists chosen for James Micheners 1968 book, The Modern Japanese Print An Appreciation. The book was launched at the same time as an exhibition of eighty-five different Maki prints from all periods. His work is housed in museums across the world including Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, British Museum, London, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Cincinnati Art Museum to name a few. Geese and Full Moon. Eight white-breasted geese in flight with a full moon behind. He produced a few senso-e’ (war prints) during the Russo-Japanese war. After the war the vast majority of his prints between 1900 and 1912 were published by Kokkeido and Daikokuya and were targeted at the North American and European markets. During this period all of his work was signed “Koson”. Shoson reached his peak in the mid 1930′s. His work is realistic, based mainly on his own sketches and watercolors. Framed Antique Japanese Wood Block Print Royal Palanquin Costumed Guards 2

Framed Antique Japanese Wood Block Print Royal Palanquin Costumed Guards 2. Offering a wonderful, framed and under glass, 19th century Japanese wood block print. This print measures 12 1/2 X 18 1/2 on the portion that is seen. With frame it measures 21″ X 26″. This was probably folded at some time in its life because a faint line can be seen down the center. Featured is a scene with intricately attired servants pulling a royal palanquin. This wood block is very refined with simple but elegant expression and color. The artist has signed his name in ink characters. No tears or insect holes or stains. There is some slight yellowing and aging of the paper and the center fold line can be seen. This is one of two Japanese wood block prints I own, variations on the same subject. Perhaps it was a series. There are similarities in the artist’s signature but they are not exactly the same. The second Japanese wood block print is listed separately. Afghanistan, Angola, Brazil, Bolivia, Burma, Congo, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mexico, Nigeria, North Korea, Paraguay, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. I provide huge pictures, measurements and details on all my items. THANKS FOR STOPPING AND HAVE FUN SHOPPING!
