Kunishu was a student of Shunin and Toyokuni III, and was called “Meiji no Sharaku” by Kojima Osui. Kunishu is a representative of the Ukiyoe artists of the Meiji period, and his numerous works are of great value as a source of information on the history of Meiji theater.
