Shirani Kasamatsu Shirani Kasamatsu, who will celebrate the 30th anniversary of his death in 2021, studied Japanese-style painting under Kiyokata Kaburaki with Ito Shinsui and Kawase Tomoe Sui, and left nearly 400 woodblock prints during his lifetime. From around 1919, Shirani, along with Tomoe, published numerous woodblock prints at the Watanabe Print Shop, and attracted attention as one of the standard-bearers of the “new print” movement. After the war, he began to produce new woodblock prints for Geisodo, a publisher in Kyoto, and from around 1955, he also began to produce self-printed, self-engraved, and self-released “creative prints”. This book is the first definitive collection of Shirani Kasamatsu’s major woodblock prints, covering his life-long involvement with woodblock prints. Please be aware of this.
