This is an original Japanese Showa era c. (wood block print) titled Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha) by the Japanese artist Gihachiro Okuyama. February 17, 1907 – October 1, 1981. The artist’s seal and signature is present in the bottom left corner of the image (see picture 7). The print depicts the great bronze Buddha of Kamakura Japan. According to temple records the statue dates from around 1252, during the Kamakura period for which it is named. It is shown here with people around or approaching it. This print is “oban” sized and measures roughly 16 1/4″ x 11 1/4″ (41 / 29 cm) including the margins. In very fine condition with deep rich colors.
