This is an original Japanese Showa 18 c. (wood block print) titled Calm at Kisaki by artist Kawase Hasui (1883 – 1943). The artist’s seal and signature is present in the bottom right corner of the image (see picture 4). While the date on the left margin states “Showa 18th year” (1943) and above is the title, Clam at Kisak i. In the lower left hand corner is the 7 mm Watanabe publishers seal (see pictures 7 & 8). The print depicts a boat slowly sailing along a placid lake (lake Kisaki) with forested cliffs looming all around. This print is “oban” sized and measures roughly 15 1/4″ x 10 1/4″ (39 / 26 cm) including the margins. In very fine condition with deep rich colors.
