HOKUSAI ONNA IMAGAWA 1st ED Bizarre lesson Ukiyoe Woodblock print Picture Book. EHON ONNA IMAGAWA (lit Picture book: The girls Imagawa) A unique Onna Imagawa which is filled with imagination of Hokusai. Although two pages are missing, it is a very good condition without insect damage or remarkable defects. 58 pages, 26 of which have fine woodcut images. Original cover and title slip. Minor ink stains on one page (7th scan). One page has minor bookbinding defect (no damage: first scan) Rare first edition book with excellent state of preservation above average overall. Imagawa (Imagawa-jyo) is a textbook of family precepts that Imagawa Tadayo of Samurai gave to his younger brother Nakaaki in 1412. It included the lessons of 23 and was used as a textbook of moral education and calligraphy for children in the Edo period. Onna means a woman in Japanese, and Imagawa for girls is Onna Imagawa. The first scan is a woman who performs a curse ceremony at midnight. Her distorted heart resonates with the different world and summons an evil existence. There is no other Onna Imagawa with such a mysterious illustrations like included in this book. One of the hidden masterpieces of Hokusai.
