Because Usuzumi technique (a woodcut printing technique that expresses a gradient by diluting ink and by manual work) that has been omitted in reprints are appearing throughout this work, this is the first edition book (See last scan). The biography of Nichiren, a masterpiece pictorial by Hokusai who was also a believer in Nichiren-shu (Nichiren school). Nichiren was a monk in the Kamakura period, founder of the Nichiren School that regarded the Lotus Sutra as the supreme Scripture. He was suppressed by extreme missionary activities, but it is said to have been helped by a number of miracles by Buddha’s protection.
