ABOUT THE ARTIST: GASHU FUKAMI was Born in 1953 at Kumaoto, Japan and completed his education at Doshisya University in Kyoto in 1975. He then studied Woodblock Print making under Takeji Asano until 1977 and decided take a three years arts course at the Kaji Aso studio in Boston. The first showing of his work was held at a solo Exhibition at the Heian Gallery in Kyoto in 1983 where his woodblock prints were extremely well received. In 1990 a showing at Yamashita Gallery in Nagasaki was also very successful. Galleries in the USA were eager for his work so his next exhibition in Japan did not take place until 2001 where another solo show was held at ZokyuDo in Kyoto. Since that time he has had his artworks exhibited at the prestigious Hankyu Department Store in Osaka (2002), the Buffte Five Gallery in Wakayama (2004) , a successful exhibition in New York (2010) and most recently another exhibition in Yamashita Gallery (2012) as well as the highly regarded Daimaru Department Store in Kukuoka (2013). His unique artistic style and fabulous use of colour and form have marked him as one of the leaders among modern woodblock artists. The Pictures are an Important Part of the Description.
