Maiko III (Seated Female Figure). Sosaku Hanga Woodblock Print. Stamped and Signed on the lower left. Image 15.5 x 10 inches (39.4 x 25cm). Frame 20.5x 15 inches (52 x 38cm). He is considered a modern master of Japanese print making and since the mid 20th century. Saito has been beloved by collectors and institutions around the world. 1st Japanese artist received Grand Prize at Sao Paulo Art Biennale and opened doors for Japanese traditional art mediums to American museums. Modern Masters: Collecting Memories of Post-War Japan. Ronin Gallery considers the work of four key artists of the Sosaku Hanga movement. Entitled “Maiko III” this original woodblock was printed in 1960 and depicts the backside of a sitting Geisha. Signed in the lower left corner with his name fully written in ink, their is also his red chop mark present just above. In overall phenomenal condition, this print has been dearly taken care of it. The print is free from any tears, rips, creases, folds and punctures. This is a rare and fantastic example of Kiyoshi’s body of work and his more traditional prints executed in the later half of his life.
