Kasamatsu Shiro Vintage Woodblock Print Toshogu Shrine Ueno from JAPAN F/S. Shiro Kasamatsu was a student of Kaburagi Kiyokata. In the 1950s he published bird and animal prints, landscapes and “famous views” with the publisher Unsodo – alltogether more than 100. Shiro Kasamatsu worked in Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga style. The first printing was made between 1952 and 1959, and this work is a reprint using the woodblocks from that time. The name of the publisher, engraver, and printer are indicated outside the column. The work you receive may be produced by a printer other than the one shown. Born in Asakusa, Tokyo in 1898, Shirani studied Japanese-style painting under Kaburaki Kiyokata at the age of 14, and continued his activities in the Tatsumi Gakkai and the Goudokai. Geisoudo began his printing career in 1952 and published more than 100 works. His works featuring various parts of Japan have been re-evaluated in recent years, and exhibitions of his works have been held in various places as the “last shin-hanga” works.
