For sale an interesting original Japanese woodblock print. From my research the scene is known as “Fuchu” & from “53 Stations of Tokaido Road” by Utagawa Hiroshige. I see that there were various impressions done of this woodblock during the 19th century. I have had no luck in finding the impression which I offer for sale, which has a small red seal top right corner between the longer red seal & black Japanese writing. Please see photo’s. Original Japanese Woodblock Oban Print Triptych – Toyokuni lll/ Kunisada -1849 – , Actors Ôtani Tomoemon IV as Tôma Onitsura, Ichikawa Danjûrô VIII as Niki Danjô (r), Bandô Hikosaburô IV as Watanabe Gekizaemon Asao Tamejûrô IV as Yamana Sôzen (c), and Ichikawa Danjûrô VIII as Hosokawa Katusumoto (L). From the Play: Date Kurabe Okuni. All shown in a tent, as a letter is being burned. Signed Toyokuni ga all sheets. Size: 14 ½” x 29 1/4″. Condition: Excellent color and bleedthrough; 3 panels not attached, few holes, minor thinning in a couple of spots, light creasing at edges, some soil, all that would be commensurate with age.
