Rare Original Woodblock Print by Clifton Karhu Katsura Rikyu
Author: adminFeb 15
Up for sale is this beautiful woodblock print, “Katsura-rikyu” depicting the Katsura Imperial Villa, an imperial residence located in the suburbs of Kyoto. The print was created by Clifton Karhu, perhaps the most-acclaimed non-Japanese woodblock print artists of all time (with the exception of Charles Bartlett). Katsura grew up in Minnesota, but moved to Japan after joining the military and being stationed there. Karhu’s style is pretty unique, usually employing bold colors overlaid with a traditional Japanese sensibility. This piece is quite typical of his work, and shows a beautiful vibrancy. Print is matted and framed under glass in a tasteful bamboo wood frame. The piece is in excellent condition. Frame is in very good condition, showing a few nicks. I have not examined the print outside the frame. Please see the photos. Due to the glass, there is a little bit of glare on the photos, but the print looks exquisite. I’m happy to answer any particular questions about condition or provide additional photos. Visible area of the print measures approximately 14 inches wide by 10.75 inches high. Frame measures approximately 17.125 inches wide by 13 inches wide. If the item is not paid for within this time frame, an unpaid item case will be opened. More pictures available on request.
