Original Japanese Woodblock Print. Superb Original woodblock print from the series of prints known as “Floral Calendar of Japan” by Kawarazaki Shodo. Several designs for each of the twelve calendar months were created – example Irises, Cherry Blossom Peonies etc. This print was created and published by the internationally recognised Japanese Printing company called Unsodo, founded in Kyoto in 1891. Specializing in both book and woodblock printing. Woodblock prints are made in the same way as Ukiyo-e printmaking techniques of the Edo period. From a black line carved on board and then each board for colours individually carved. Skilled craftsmen carve one by one. Image 365 x 242 (ie the black single line). Sheet: 405 x 265.
