Of all the Japanese printmakers of the late Edo and early Meiji periods, Utagawa Yoshitora Japanese, c. This intriguing print is titled Hara in Suruga Province. It is from Yoshitora’s incredible series Calligraphy and Pictures for the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, c. Dynamic image of attackers being repelled by magical flames conjured up by a samurai warrior. Great detail and vibrant color in this fascinating supernatural scene. A marvelous antique print and a wonderful example of Japanese art from the 1800s. Would be a fine choice for display in your home or office. Good condition considering its age but not in perfect condition. A couple tears, repaired and blend well but still show on close examination. A few spots and some staining & soiling.
