KIYOSHI NAGAI Original JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT. Limited Edition, signed, numbered. This is a limited edition piece. The print depicts a flat, modern-style image of a simple yellow home, surrounded by large trees, in the Shinano Province of Japan. The print is titled in both English and Japanese, signed, dated, and numbered “252-17″ in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. The imagery is surrounded by a wide white margin and is presented behind glass in a thin black wooden frame. The print’s measures are approximately: 19″ W x 12.5″ H incl. 19.8″ W x 13.4″ H x 0.7 D. Condition: Very Good the. Paper is beginning to discolor slightly on edges; scratching is visible across the frame. Great addition to a serious collection. He studied western painting techniques at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He is more widely known under the name Hiroyuki Tajima. Nagai began creating woodblock prints in 1946 and he signed his richly colored abstractions, Tajima, and his more literal works, Nagai. He was a member of the Bijutsu Bunka Kyokai (a group of abstract and surrealist artists) and in 1963 he joined the Japanese Print Association. Nagai took part in the International Tokyo Print Biennale and his works are represented in numerous collections worldwide. You can do it within 14 days , after your item has been received. Pair of Japanese Woodblock prints in original frames with new mats. “Bamboo” The print is 16.5″ tall x 11″ wide The frame is 21.25″ x 15.5″ Has Artist Chop Marks and Artist Seals. He graduated from the Kyoto Kaiga Semmon Galkko in 1930, a Technical School of Painting. He went on to do many things including Western-style art but mostly known for his Japanese-style paintings. Eventually after WWII he created a number of designs for Uchida Publishing including today’s pair of woodblocks “Bamboo”.
