KATSUYUKI NISHIJIMA Original Japanese Wood Block Print “Umbrellas” Signed and numbered; unframed measures approximately 18 1/4″H x 13 5/8″W. Vintage, pre-owned, with age related imperfections to include stains, rubs, mars, creasing and bleed through to rear of artists paper. No evidence of having been framed or mounted. KATSUYUKI NISHIJIMA was born in 1945 in Yamaguchi Province of Japan. From 1964 to 1968 he studied the art of Woodblock Prints in the studio of the Mikumo publishing house in Kyoto as well as exhibiting his work with the Kyoto independent artists and in solo displays. From 1972 he focused his immense talents on limited edition woodblocks using traditional old buildings as his main subject matter. They are in USED/AS IS condition. Description – Woodblock print titled “Birds and Fish”. Shiro Kasamatsu was a Japanese engraver and print maker trained in the Shin-Hanga and Sosaku-Hanga styles of woodblock printing. Kasamatsu was born in Tokyo in 1898 and apprenticed at the age of 13 to Kaburagi Kiyokata, a tradiional master of Bijin-ga or female portraiture. January 11, 1898, Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan.
