Original woodblock print from Nakayama Sugakudo’s Birds & Flowers Prints, 1861. Antique original, approximately 160 years old. Image of Vented Bulbul birds with Pomegrante, Rose, and Balsa. By Japanese artist Nakayama Sugakudo, active in the late 1800′s. Vintage wood frame, painted with gilt is 13 1/2 x 18 1/2, more recent than print. Print is 9 x 13, matted and under glass. Print has some fading but very nice, frame is in very good condition. Recently acquired in Northern Virginia. Sugakudo was a Jap. Ctive between 1850 through early 1860s. Little is know about Sugakudo, even the dates of his birth and death are unknown, though it is widely reported that he was a student of Hiroshige. He is best known for his bird and flower prints or.
