This print is after “Sudden Shower over Shin-Ohashi Bridge and Atake” from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, 1857, by Utagawa Hiroshige. We believe this edition to be a early 20th century reprint. Condition: Good some fading/discoloration to the paper. Height 12 1/4 Inches 31.0 cm. Width 8 1/8 Inches 20.7 cm. According to research, print is dated to 1932 and usually referred to as “Izumi Bridge in Rain” or Night Shower on Izumi Bridge. A beautiful composition of two figures running across a wooden bridge. Both are holding umbrellas, one of which is barefoot whilst carrying a paper lantern. Hallmarks: Piece is signed along left side center edge. Reverse side of woodblock is stamped Made in Japan. Dimensions: Mat Length 17 3/4″ x Height 9 7/8″. Visible Image Length 14 1/2″ x Height 6 1/4″. Print Length 15 1/8″ x Height 6 3/4″. Condition: Great vintage condition with very minor wear to print. Minor soiling to mat. Colors are strong and vivid. Print is not adhered to backing. Original Woodblock Print by Shotei Takahashi , published by Watanabe Company. This version is pictured in the 1936 Watanabe catalog. Condition is overall excellent as shown in the photos. There is a thin band of mat toning on the edges of the print which can be seen in the photo of the lower right corner. No folds, tears, or wrinkles. Framed print includes the print name and signature written in pencil by the artist. This is on a section from the original presentation folder, it has been cut out and added to the bottom of the mat, as shown. The mat and frame is included with the print. The frame is overall good condition consistent with age, with a couple of dents at the bottom right corner as shown. The print dimensions are 15 x 6.75 inches (38 x 17 cm).
