Vintage Japanese woodblock print, signed in the bottom right corner. This is a vintage woodblock print of a beautiful view of a green pond and swimming ducks. The main color is gorgeous dark green with yellows and some reds. It looks very nice up close. Size: 16″ x 8″. The print is mounted on a wooden board and covered with transparent matte finish. The borders are textured gold paper or fabric. The corners are black plastic. The print dates approximately to the mid-century. Very good vintage condition. Old Japanese Woodblock Print “Wild Ducks and Pampas Grass”, Signed Ohara Koson, Publisher Sealed Watanabe (6 mm seal). The overall is measurement is 19.5 inches (49.6 cm) long by 14.2 inches (36.2 cm) wide. The print is 14 inches (35.5 cm) long by 9.2 inches (23.5 cm) wide. The seal is 6.31 mm in diameter. The total weight is 0.5 Lb. The print is glued to the board. It has browning, discoloration, fading, and a small brown spot at the corner (as seen in the photos). Tsuchiya Koitsu was born under the name of “Koichi” in Hammamatsu in the Japanese countryside. He went to Tokyo. At the age 15 and had apprentice with Matsuzaki, a engraver who worked for Kobayashi Kiyochika. , an artist famous for his genre scenes and military prints. But instead of staying with the engraver, Koitsu joined Kiyochika’s studio and remained there for 19 years, during which he learned the drawing and the graphic composition. His first prints were about the Sino-Japanese war of 1894. Very in vogue at the time. Then he made lithography and changed the register when he met the publisher Watanabe 1883. During an exhibition commemorating Kiyochika in 1931. The following year, he realized his first print Shin-Hanga (Looking at the cherry blossoms in Gion , Kyoto). He made ten prints for Watanabe, then worked mainly with Doi Teiichi and made a few prints with Kawaguchi & Sakai as well as for Baba Nobuhiko. The prints of Koitsu are mostly landscapes in the lineage of Kiyochika and Kawase Hasui based on a beautiful interpretation of light to express emotions, atmosphere, atmosphere. Kaoru Kawano Mandarin Ducks 1960s Pencil Signed Japanese Color Woodblock

Kaoru Kawano studied at Kawabata art school in 1934. He exhibited at the Japan Print Society as early as 1944 but his career was interrupted by the war (he was a POW in Siberia). He resumed his career following the war, participating in numerous Japanese and international exhibitions. Noted for his semi-abstract images of women and children, Kawano was one of the few Japanese printmakers to design, carve, and publish his own prints. This print of swimming ducks is signed in pencil and bears Kawano’s seal lower right. The print measures 9 1/4″ x 14 7/8″ (image size). It is in good condition with mat burn in the margins and some toning of the paper. Framed and matted as shown. Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints.
