Takashi studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and painting with Kiyokata Kaburagi. He eventually became one of the artists working with print publisher Shozaburo Watanabe, designing prints from the 1920s through the 1950s. This print bears Takashi’s seal lower right. It is in good condition perhaps with minor color fading. It measures 15 1/4″ x 10 1/8″ (paper size). Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints. Outstanding 1952 Japanese color woodblock print — Mt. Takashi studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and painting with Kiyokata Kaburagi. He eventually became one of the artists working with print publisher Shozaburo Watanabe, designing prints from the 1920s through the 1950s. This Oban format print bears Takashi’s printed signature and seal lower left as well as the Watanabe 6 mm publisher seal lower left. It is in good condition with color fading and two pin-head sized holes in the upper margin (about 1/4 from the edge of the paper). It measures 10 5/8″ x 15 5/8″ (paper size). ITO TAKASHI Japanese Woodblock Print SPRING THAW 1949. Oirase in Spring — Towadako National Park. Date: 1949, this is a later edition printed from the original woodblocks by Watanabe Size: oban , approx. 10.5″ x 15.5″ Condition: Fine, no flaws, uncirculated print, never framed Impression: Fine, solid keylines, nice surface texture, tight registration Color: Fine, deep saturated color and bleed through to verso. ABOUT ITO TAKASHI Ito Takashi, like Kawase Hasui and Shotei was one of the stable of landscape artists who designed prints for the shin hanga publisher Watanabe Shozaburo. Like several other print artists of this period, including Ito Shinsui and Hasui, Ito Takashi studied painting under Kaburagi Kiyokata. In addition, he attended the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and studied with Yuki Somei. Takashi designed a total of 85 woodblock prints from the early 1920′s through 1965.
