This print is considered as a technical masterpiece of Japanese Shin hanga carving and printing. The jewels, gossamer, and imprint of the gown glitter with impressed mica. It was dedicated to Queen Juliana of the Netherlands as a part of a gift set. Signed in pencil lower left above the Peach seal. Seals of carver, Kentaro Maeda, and printer, Tetsunosuke Honda, lower right margin. Published: 28 December 1950. Jacoulet authority Richard Miles notes that, More than 300 individual impressions of nearly 60 blocks, carved on both sides, were needed to create this ultimate technical tour de force of 20th Century art. It was as though. Wished to display his technique by printing the silver threads on the gossamer cloth in front of this figure, rather than as a flat design on the background. The effect could not be achieved in any other medium, as the cloth seems almost to float in space. Printed on thick, heavy rice paper. Trimmed, but otherwise impeccable condition. Top of elaborate JP Seal evident on rear. The item “1950 Paul Jacoulet Japanese Woodblock Print Les Perles Shin Hanga” is in sale since Saturday, February 6, 2021.
