Unusual antique Japanese 3 panel screen painting with six original Japanese woodblock prints mounted on a gold-speckled paper ground. Each print measures 6.75″ x 8.25″. Screen measures 28″ x 54.5″. Dates from the early 20th century. There is a small repair (1.5) near the lower woodblock on the left panel (see detail image). Also a small stain towards top of this panel. Otherwise screen is in very good condition with a nice silk border. Back of screen has a little wear, a repair to a tear in the paper but nothing that effects the front of screen. Japanese woodblock by Saburosuke Okada. Title: The Heroine Osan. Carver: Yamagishi Kazue // Printer: Mishimura Kumakichi. This print is one the the eighteen works in the Chikamatsu series. Each print was designed by a different artist and is a character. In a Chikamatsu play. The shading on Osan’s forehead is part of the character and is not a defect. Image measures 7 7/8 inches by 15 3/8 inches. Very good estate condition, see photos. ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
