Vintage Toshi Yoshida Japanese Woodblock Print Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage woodblock print on paper by the well-known Japanese artist, Toshi Yoshida. Please excuse any glare in the photos. The charming scene depicted includes an adult rock ptarmigan with four chicks. The print is not matted or framed. The image area measures approximately 9 5/8 inches by 14 3/4 inches. The paper measures approximately 10 3/4 inches by 16 inches. This would be a lovely addition to a collection of Japanese works of art on paper. Identification This print is called Raicho or Japanese Rock Ptarmigan. The son of Hiroshi Yoshida, Toshi Yoshida was known for his animal prints in the sosaku-hanga style. The exact age of this vintage print is not known. Also included with the print is a folding brochure from the Yoshida Studio in Tokyo. This paperwork was with the print when I acquired it. This informative brochure shows examples of works by the Yoshida family, including Hiroshi, Fujio, Toshi, Kisoko, Hodaka, and Chizuko. It measures approximately 11 5/8 inches by 16 1/4 inches when opened. Condition This unframed print looks very good overall, as shown. There are no rips, creases, or holes. The woodblock paper is laid to (affixed to) a slightly textured paper which appears to be of the same type as the woodblock paper. This may be original, as the frame that was on the piece when I acquired it was the original frame; since the condition of this frame was not good, I discarded it. There is minor discoloration near the borders, within the image area, from the original framing. To the back side, there are two small tape areas where this was once affixed to a mat. As made, there are some tiny ink spots to the lower margin. The folding brochure has some tape residue and discoloration, as found. Terms of Sale 1.
