Original Japanese Woodblock Oban Print Diptych – Toyokuni lll/ Kunisada -1857 – SUMO DIPTYCH- Actors Arashi Rikan III, and Ichikawa Danjûrô VIII in the roles of Hanaregoma no Chokichi and Nuregami Chogoro from the Play: Futatsu chocho kuruwa nikki. Two Sumo wrestlers in elaborate costumes in an interior setting, the one on the left beside vertically stacked bales, lunging forward on one foot as if to attack the other surprised wrestler. Signed: Toyokuni ga in a pale blue toshidama cartouche, both sheets. Together they measure 20 1/4″ x 14 1/2″ Condition: Excellent color and detail, light soil; several holes, repaired; not attached, and slight residue on the reverse from where it had been previous laid down.
