Antique Woodblock Print from Senshutsu Edo 48 Kei (Selected 48 Views of Edo from the series One Hundred Views of Edo). Sudden Shower over Shin-hashi bridge and Atake. Meiji period hand printed woodblock print. About 14 x 9.4 inches. Printed in September 1, 1891. Published by Kodama Matashichi of Ohashi-do. Outstanding 1952 Japanese color woodblock print — Mt. Takashi studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and painting with Kiyokata Kaburagi. He eventually became one of the artists working with print publisher Shozaburo Watanabe, designing prints from the 1920s through the 1950s. This Oban format print bears Takashi’s printed signature and seal lower left as well as the Watanabe 6 mm publisher seal lower left. It is in good condition with color fading and two pin-head sized holes in the upper margin (about 1/4 from the edge of the paper). It measures 10 5/8″ x 15 5/8″ (paper size).
